HTL tools: Insight circles
The HTL Insight Circles were developed with healthcare workers in mind. Often when human centered design (HCD) workshops are facilitated in healthcare, clinicians and other staff come straight from clinical, administration or care work into the HCD workshop.
On entering the space the familiar post it notes, ‘how might we’ statements and butchers paper await them. While these methods attempt to solve the problem of disaggregated information amongst diverse individuals, they are often a fragmenting experience for participants.
The HTL insight circles introduce minimal design language and help reduce the highly synchronised behaviour of workshop participants as they are novel and engaging.
Participants can take a wedge and work by themselves or work in small teams, the ability to provide participants with choices was at the forefront of the design.
As participants progress to the outer circles, a cohesive narrative forms. Each circle help support the story teller, starting with a specific problem, then the resources required to solve it and the opportunity to create something better.
At the end of the workshop the wedges re-join to form large insight circles where the problem ecosystem can be considered as a whole and that’s where the innovation and entrepreneurship begins.
